Lasik Frequently Asked Questions.

The Koffler Vision Group and Dr. Koffler were one of the first ophthalmology offices to introduce laser refractive eye surgery procedures in 1995.  At this time, the Excimer laser was first approved by the FDA.  Approximately 2 years later, Dr. Koffler started performing LASIK procedures where the laser energy and resulting ablation is placed underneath a corneal flap.  This reduced discomfort and improved the time for recovery of vision.

Last year, we were proud to introduce to our patients the newest generation of lasers for custom LASIK profiles.  The LADARVision laser incorporates features such as the tracking of eye movements so that centration of the eye is always maintained.  In addition, the flying spot technology of laser application improves accuracy.

The Koffler Vision Group has always been a cornea-based practice.  Dr. Koffler completed a one-year fellowship in cornea and external disease at Georgetown University’s Center for Site in Washington, DC.  Following this, he spent 4 years as an assistant professor, running the cornea service at the University of Kentucky.  The Koffler Vision Group team now has over 8 years experience with LASIK and 10 years experience with PRK.

LASIK continues to be the favorite procedure for the most refractive surgeons.  Using the flap technology allows rapid healing times so that most patients are able to return to work within 2-3 days.  Patient satisfaction rates in most surveys are in the 98-99% category.  Postoperative pain is minimal, and most patients are comfortable by the next morning.
